National Year of Reading 2008
As part of Newport Community Learning and Libraries push into getting children to read the Dragons were involved in the summer reading initiative. During this time Dragons stars Jamie Corsi and Jimmy Norris joined Education Officer Phil James at libraries in the city centre and read to the awed kids that were present.
Following this the competition took place to find the best review of a book during the summer school holidays in which the kids had to read at least six books. The overall winner was Harri Rowlands, who with his mum, dad and brother was invited to a special lunchtime meal with all the Dragons squad.
However, such was the high standard of entry that it was decided to award three runner up prizes and they have been invited to attend today's game and will be presented with a certificate by
Children and Young Peoples Services Manager and competition organiser Tracey Paddon.
Those who will be receiving their award from Tracey and a star Dragons player are 6-year-old Chantelle Parkhouse and Huw Hopkins (5) both of Malpas, Newport and Lowri Dianne Moore aged 7 from Crindau.
“The competition was a great success,” said a beaming Tracey, “we hope that we can get the Dragons involvement again next year!”
