Gateway Rugby a Great Success
The Dragons Gateway rugby project continues to produce the goods with hundreds of youngsters throughout the local schools receiving quality coaching from their Dragons community development officers (CDO’s).
The project not only focussed on skills development but also on the social, behavioural and discipline required in life in general. “The children get a real buzz out of participating in the exciting activities delivered by us and we provide welcomed expertise to the schools” said a proud, Janice Chappell, CDO.
The fortnightly structure of the project allows the teachers to develop their knowledge of the game and enables them to implement the session observed, before the officer returns, gaining hands on experience.
Gateway Rugby also assists the Newport School U11’s District squad in their preparation for the highly prestigious DC Thomas National cup.
Recently the Dragons officers put over 80 aspiring year 5 pupils through their paces in a full days training at Caerleon RFC.
In addition, the first team squad were also beneficiaries of a development day held during the half term at Rodney Parade. The session proved very productive with the youngsters showing great improvement throughout.
