Newport Community Learning and Libraries enjoyed a great summer with the Newport Gwent Dragons players promoting reading among the children and young people of Newport during the summer holidays.
Children and families meet their Newport Gwent Dragons heroes at Maindee and Newport Central Library where the children collected autographs and found out what books the players liked when they were children - with Roald Dahl a big favourite with everyone!
The Dragons also offered a signed ball and the opportunity to dine with the players during the October half term for the reading competition which requires entrants to read at least six books and report back to the team with their favourite.
Tracey Paddon, Children and Young Peoples Services Manager at Newport Central Library said:
“This campaign has caused a lot of excitement with children of all ages, many of whom would probably have not read a book if it wasn't for this encouragement.
“Thanks to the Dragons for a fantastic summer,” she added.
