The coaches had hoped that the opening 20 minutes would set the tone for the rest of the game but this was not to be. The Dragons forwards began looking to run the ball from all areas of the field and this lead to a number of turnovers at the breakdown. The Dragons didn’t score after the first 15 minutes but went in at half time leading 21-0.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first ended, despite rousing half time speeches from new captain Lee Edwards and flanker Andrew Packer. However, The Dragons scored two more tries through fullback Greg Callow (Caerphilly) and second row Lee Williams (Newport Saracens) sealed a comfortable 33-0 victory for The Dragons.
The coaching staff, comprising of Jared Lougher, Steve Pritchard and Paul Taylor were relatively pleased with the result; “It was a good result, especially considering that this was the first time that many of these players would have played together. What pleased us most was the commitment and effort shown by all and coming away from the Ospreys without conceding a point.”
After the game, the staff and players noted that there are a few areas to sharpen up on before a tough game against the Blues next week. Kick off at Caerphilly RFC is 7:30 on Wednesday 3rd October.
