Connacht v Newport Gwent Dragons
Friday 21st September, Kick Off 6pm
Sportsground, Galway
Introduction – after a week's break The Dragons swing back into Magners League action with a tricky away game to Connacht. The Irish and Scottish sides now join in the competition following the Welsh regions starting their campaign early due to EDF Energy Cup commitments later in the season.
Head-to-Head – the two sides are evenly matched with The Dragons just edging the series 5-3 following their away win at the Sportsground on 1st May 2004. That is the only occasion the Welsh region have won at Connacht with the other results going the way of the home side.
Injury Update – The Dragons are without fly half Aled Thomas who has a rib injury while Lee Harrison is out long term. Alex Walker has recovered from his wrist injury to travel as a reserve to Ireland.
Form – Following a 100% pre season record and an opening away win at Stradey Park, last time out The Dragons crashed to a heavy home loss against a very physical Blues side. Connacht haven't tasted league action yet this season but have never lost their opening league game.
Who's Hot – All The Dragons need to perform against Connacht if they are to secure their second win on the road of the season.
We Think – The Dragons need to do the basics right, set piece, kicking and defence all need to be spot on and with a little bit of luck on their side then they can sneak the win. However, Connacht have selected a strong side and should not be underestimated.
