The Dragons U18s failed to open their WRU Reebok regional campaign with a win after they lost to the Ospreys.
The region, who travelled to the Llandarcy Academy with a giant pack and with confidence high, struggled throughout against an expansive Ospreys side who ran in five tries.
A try hat trick from centre Kristian Phillips earned the Ospreys a winning start, with Ashley Beck and Ryan Bayliss grabbing further tries as the Ospreys won 31-3.
Danny Ellis kicked the only points for the Dragons with High Performance Manager Ron Shottle slightly bemused by his side's inability to achieve parity.
Shottle said, "Our pack outweighed the Ospreys and because of that we thought we would possibly be in place to win the game. However, they held their own at forward and showed great strength and ability behind."
Meanwhile Llanelli Scarlets' kicked off their season with a disappointing 19-13 defeat to the Blues at Llandovery.
