The WRU Reebok regional U20 Championship game between The Dragons and Ospreys had to be abandoned seven minutes into the second half at Waterton Cross last night due to an injury to Ospreys lock Richard Kelly.

The Ospreys led 10 - 7 at the time, but the officials had no choice but to call off the contest due to the time it took to secure Kelly (broken leg) and take him to hospital.

Ospreys Regional Performance Manager Dai Arthur said, "We will discuss what happens with regards to the result of the game but at the moment our thoughts are with Richard for a speedy recovery from what appeared to be a serious leg break."

Lee Halfpenny and Rhys Lawrence scored tries for the home region with Jason Tovey hitting back for the Dragons with a try converted by Geraint O'Driscoll.

In the other game, the Scarlets missed out on an opening night victory, going down 26-23 to the Blues at Stradey Park.

But the game was somewhat overshadowed by serious injuries to Blues captain Jevon Groves, who suffered a back injury and the Scarlets prop and last season's Wales under 19s loose head Huw Gustafson, who broke his leg.

The Scarlets led 20-8 at the interval courtesy of two tries from wing Gruff Jones and 10 points from the boot of Llangennech's Jonathan Griffiths.

Matthew Larsen bagged a try for the Blues and after Kristian Bala had added a penalty before the interval, the Blues struck back with further tries from Tom Daly and Sam Warburton and two more Bala penalties and a conversion.
