Michael Owen breaks away

The Dragons outscored the Ospreys by three tries to one and despite scoring a try in the opening four minutes the visitors rarely threatened the home try line after that. The Ospreys led 8-0 after twenty two minutes thanks to a Shaun Connor try and Adrian Cashmore penalty.

The rest of the half was all Dragons as the team scored two tries in the space of four minutes. Ian Gough back after a shoulder injury scored the first after bursting from a ruck and beating two defenders to score under the posts, Ceri Sweeney added the conversion. Hal Luscombe was instrumental in the Dragons second try he chipped ahead and got the ball back inside to Gareth Chapman who fed Michael Owen who went over for the try which again was converted by Sweeney. This put the Dragons 14-8 ahead and a Cashmore penalty in injury time at the end of the first half meant the scores were 14-11 at the half time.

The second half saw the Ospreys draw level as Cashmore slotted his third penalty however, the Dragons capitalised on the Ospreys trying to break out from their own half with Connor throwing a long pass which wing Gareth Chapman stretched up and held onto and raced away from the Ospreys desperate tackles to score in the corner. Replacement Craig Warlow converted the try from wide out to make it 21-14 before adding a monster penalty to make the final score 24-14.
