Newport Gwent Dragons are delighted to announce that the official charity for the 2005/06 season is St Anne’s Hospice.
The Hospice opened in 1994 and provides dedicated in-patient facilities for patients who require hospice care. It is owned and managed by the sisters of St Joseph’s of Annecy and is situated in the grounds of St Joseph’s private hospital, Newport. St Anne’s Hospice is an independent charity that costs £1.5m to provide the professional services they offer, 20% of that comes from government funding but £1.2m, that is £23,000 a week, has to be raised from other avenues if they are to continue.
Adrian Hadley Director of Fundraising commented, “We are delighted that The Dragons have chosen St Anne’s as their charity of the season and we look forward to supporting them as much as they are going to support us and wish them every success.”
“We are delighted to announce that St Anne’s Hospice is our chosen charity for the forthcoming season,” commented Commercial Director Gethin Jenkins. “We aim to provide an advocacy role in bringing the work the Hospice does to the attention of a wider audience and we will be organising fundraising activities on match day and will embark on a number of initiatives to raise awareness and funds for the Hospice. We are delighted to be able to support a local charity of our Region. Last season we supported Sparkle and we continue our commitment to supporting local charities with our pledge to St Anne’s Hospice.”
