Scarlets v Dragons Match Report
However unfortunately for the Men of Gwent they lost out this evening to the West Region.
The Scarlets managed a bonus point win of 25-15 at Parc Y Scarlets with the Dragons just missing out on a losing bonus point.
It was the hosts that opened their account with ten minutes on the clock. Flanker James Davies went over the whitewash with a conversion from fullback Aled Thomas.
It was prop Phil John who added the next try to the Scarlets scoreboard after they attacked the try line, this time the conversion wasn’t added.
The Dragons put their first set of points on the board with a penalty kick from Jason Tovey in the 25th minute.
The Men of Gwent looked to add another three points but unfortunately for Tovey his kick hit the posts. However his next attempt at scoring saw him fly over the tryline. It was Scarlets flanker Davies who failed to offload the ball correctly and it was Tovey who booted it towards the try line from halfway. In a race against two other defenders Tovey gathered and slid over.
The Dragons looked like they were going to go over in the corner just before half time thanks to some great work from Charlie Davies and Rynard Landmand, but it wasn’t meant to be, after the Scarlets put the ball into touch on the 40minute mark.
Half Time: Scarlets 12 – Newport Gwent Dragons 8
The hosts came out of the starting blocks well after a penalty kick from Aled Thomas saw them extend their lead to 15-8, just 7minutes into the second half.
Unfortunately for the Dragons centre Adam Hughes was yellow carded and the Scarlets made the most. The hosts kicked to the corner and Phil John made it over for his second try of the evening with the help of a driving lineout.
Man of the match James Davies went over for his second try of the night in the 66th minute but the conversion was missed once again.
The Dragons weren’t letting the Scarlets off there though as replacement scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius went over which came from a good attack from the visitors. Tovey added the extras with a conversion but was unable to get the bonus point for the Region after being awarded a scrum penalty.
Newport Gwent Dragons will go into next weekends match against Ulster looking to take away their third win at Rodney Parade and keep there home winning streak intact.
